Program Description
Join us for a trilingual broadcast in Cree, French & English with language keeper Randy Morin & theatre artist Jonathan Pickrell. They will introduce us to a few rudimentary elements of their languages as we explore how to communicate and listen to actors, even if we don’t know exactly what words they’re saying. In the spirit of the quote, ‘A good actor can make an audience cry while reading the phone book.’

Artist Biography
Randy Morin is a nêhiyaw (Cree) language keeper from the Big River First Nation, which is located on Treaty 6 territory. He is a lifelong learner of Plains Cree culture and traditions. He holds a B.A in Indigenous Studies (University of Regina), B.Ed. (University of Saskatchewan), and M.Ed. in Indigenous Language Revitalization (University of Victoria). He is an Assistant Professor at the University of Saskatchewan, teaching the nêhiyawêwin/Cree language.
He is an accomplished author of four Cree Children’s books and one Cree survival phrase book with more books forthcoming. He actively supports language revitalization efforts across Canada in many capacities and also co-directs the nêhiyawak Language Experience (nLE) He is a storyteller, Plains Cree translator, and a speaker with the International Indigenous Speakers Bureau (IISB).
Jonathon Pickrell is a Saskatchewan raised actor, dancer, voice artist, and writer. He graduated with his BFA in acting from the University of Saskatchewan and has performed across Canada and the States. He often spends his Springtimes as the MC of the Spring Stars and 306 Block Party dance competitions.
Acting Credits Include: Julius Caesar / Much Ado About Nothing (Shakespeare on the Sask), The Woman In Black (Persephone Theatre), Mr. Burns: A Post Electric Play (Theatre Howl), The Boat (Highway 55 Productions), and his run as the eccentric trust fund rich boy, Maximillion Wheatland aboard the Wheatland Express.
